“It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be ground down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal.” —Pope St. John Paul II, World Youth Day, August 19, 2000
This is one of my favorite quotes from Pope St. John Paul II and I think it sums up my faith journey thus far. I have had a desire since high school to bring the truths of Theology of the Body to as many people as possible and this is why I am so excited to join the team at Ruah Woods Press. I learned about Theology of the Body in a high school theology class and ever since, I have wanted to learn more and be able to present these topics on a larger scale. I went to Franciscan University of Steubenville, where I received my degree in Theology. While there, I founded the Theology of the Body Household, Corpus Christi, which is still active on campus. I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Donald Asci who became my thesis advisor and helped me crack open the depths of John Paul II’s teachings.
While in college, I worked as a missionary of purity, teaching chastity to teens in both Catholic and public schools. I was able to attend courses at the Theology of the Body Institute, which helped shape my vision for presenting TOB. After college, I worked as Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries in the Diocese of Baker in Oregon. During my time there, I led many young adult retreats and classes that were based on the Theology of the Body. After a brief stint in seminary, I began working in parish life and with Diocesan, a Catholic Communications Company.
